Yoga is learned by doing
You can read about breathing for years, but you only understand it when you practise. Courses put daily practice first and use lectures to explain it.
Avatar Yoga School was started in Rishikesh to teach yoga honestly and carefully, in a calm place, to students from anywhere in the world. Here is the story behind the school, what our founder believes about teaching yoga and the values that still guide every course.

Brajesh Yogi founded Avatar Yoga School and leads its teaching. He is an ERYT-200 and RYT-300 registered teacher. He studied at Agra University and earned his Yoga Diploma (D.Y.Ed) at Kaivalyadham in Lonavla, Pune, one of the best-known yoga institutions in the world. He is a direct disciple of Shri O.P. Tiwari Ji, the head of Kaivalyadham. He has also studied Upanishadic and Vedic knowledge, Vedanta and Guru Parampara in satsang with Shri Guruji of Vrindavan. His students have included people in Switzerland, China, Japan, Russia and Ukraine, where he has taught.
Brajesh was born into a deeply spiritual Brahmin Hindu family in Bateshwar, near Agra. Yoga caught his interest when he was very young, and he saw early how much it could do for a person’s growth.
Since 2005 he has been teaching in Rishikesh. His classes cover asana, pranayama, mudra, bandha, meditation, Kundalini Yoga and Kriya Yoga, and he shares the knowledge of Guru Parampara along the way. In his view, the difficulty of a pose matters less than the awareness you bring to it. He teaches every level of traditional Hatha Yoga, along with yoga therapy for healing, yogic sleep, yogic cleansing, Vedanta philosophy and Yoga Teacher Training Courses.
Teacher Training Courses are what he enjoys teaching most, and he runs them throughout the year. They suit students ready to become teachers, working teachers who want to deepen what they know, and anyone who wants to take their practice much further.

Four beliefs shape how the school teaches: yoga is learned by doing, teachers should explain rather than impress, honesty comes before sales, and every body is different.
You can read about breathing for years, but you only understand it when you practise. Courses put daily practice first and use lectures to explain it.
A good teacher makes a subject clearer, not harder. The aim is that you can repeat and teach what you learn, in your own words.
Students get dates, fees and inclusions in writing, and an honest answer if another course or school would suit them better.
Poses and breath practices need options. Teachers adapt classes for injuries, stiffness and age, and they never ask you to push through pain.

A founder shapes the school, so it helps to know who they are. Look for clear training, years of teaching, openness to questions and a school that runs well in daily life.
A founder should be able to say where and with whom they trained, and for how long. Vague answers are a warning sign.
Teaching experience matters as much as certificates. Ask how long the founder has taught and which subjects they teach best.
A good founder welcomes questions about fees, teachers and the syllabus, and answers them in writing.
Check that the school has qualified teachers and clear systems, so that the courses do not depend on one person.
The school offers yoga teacher training from 50 to 500 hours, a Kundalini course, sound healing training and yoga retreats. Each one follows the same approach: clear teaching, daily practice and honest information.
You can ask the team about the founder, study at the school in person or read what students say. Any of these helps you judge whether the school is right for you.
Message the team on WhatsApp with your questions about the founder, the teachers or the courses. You can also ask for a short conversation.
The best way to understand a school is to live and learn there. Choose a retreat or a short course if you want a first look.
Students often write about the founder and the atmosphere of the school. Read the student reviews for their own words.
