Serious students who want it all
You know that yoga will be a big part of your life and you want the full training in one go. You are ready to put work and your phone aside for two months.
Avatar Yoga School's residential 500 hour yoga teacher training in Rishikesh combines the 200 hour foundation and the 300 hour advanced course in one long stay. In about eight weeks you study Hatha yoga, pranayama, meditation, philosophy, anatomy and teaching, and you finish with the hours needed for the RYT 500 route.

A 500 hour yoga teacher training is the most complete level of yoga teacher training. It joins the 200 hour foundation and the 300 hour advanced course into one program, so you study everything from basic alignment to advanced teaching in a single stay. At Avatar Yoga School in Rishikesh it is a residential course of about eight weeks.
Most teachers reach 500 hours in two steps. They complete a 200 hour course, teach for a year or two and return for 300 hours. That route works well, but it needs two trips, two visas and two sets of dates. The 500 hour course is for people who prefer to do it all at once and to let the learning build without a long break.
Eight weeks gives you time that shorter courses cannot. The first weeks build the foundation, the middle weeks deepen your practice and your study of the texts and the body, and the last weeks are for teaching, adjusting and assessment. By the end you have taught many classes, and a daily practice feels like your own.
It is a serious commitment. Days are long, the schedule is full and you live with the same group for two months. That closeness is part of the value, because you learn as much from your classmates as from your teachers. If you are not sure you want that, the shorter 200 hour course is a good first step.
You can compare the options on the 200 hour yoga teacher training in Rishikesh and 300 hour yoga teacher training pages.

The 500 hour course is for dedicated students and teachers who want the full foundation and advanced training in one stay. A steady practice helps, and the team will advise you on your starting point.
You know that yoga will be a big part of your life and you want the full training in one go. You are ready to put work and your phone aside for two months.
If you plan to teach for a living, 500 hours is a strong base. You study subjects in depth that shorter courses only touch, and you teach far more practice classes before you graduate.
Some people begin teaching after a short course or a different training. The 500 hour course fills the gaps and brings your hours up to the level that Yoga Alliance asks for RYT 500.
A two month stay suits a career break, a sabbatical or a gap between jobs. If your time is limited, the 200 hour course followed by the 300 hour course later may fit better.
Before you apply: ask the team whether you need earlier teacher training. Many students arrive with a 200 hour certificate, and others start from the foundation.
The syllabus covers six areas that grow in depth over the eight weeks: asana and sequencing, pranayama, meditation, philosophy, anatomy, and teaching with professional skills.
Start with alignment in every main pose group, then move to deeper variations, arm balances and inversions with safe progressions. You learn to sequence a class around a theme and to adapt it for beginners, older students and people with injuries.
Learn basic breathing practices in the first weeks and more demanding ones later, together with the bandhas and simple cleansing practices. You learn the order, the timing and the cautions, and you practise teaching pranayama to a group.
Build a daily sitting practice that grows from short sessions to long silent periods. You also learn mantra, concentration methods and yoga nidra, and how to guide meditation for mixed groups.
Study the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, the Hatha Yoga Pradipika and the Bhagavad Gita over many weeks, with time to discuss what the texts mean and how they apply to teaching, ethics and daily life.
Learn how the joints, spine, muscles and nervous system work, how injuries happen and how breathing connects to the body. Hands-on practice helps you read a student's movement and offer options with confidence.
Learn to plan classes, cue clearly, use your voice, give adjustments with consent and manage a group. You also cover ethics and the practical side of working as a teacher, and you teach many practice classes.
The exact balance of subjects can change by batch. Ask the team for the current syllabus before you book.
Both routes lead to 500 hours of training. Take two courses if you want time to teach in between. Choose the single 500 hour course if you prefer one long stay and a continuous program.
| Feature | 200 plus 300 hours | One 500 hour course |
|---|---|---|
| Length | About 3 weeks plus about 5 weeks | About 8 weeks in one stay |
| Trips to Rishikesh | Two | One |
| Break in between | Yes, time to teach and reflect | No, the learning is continuous |
| Best for | Those who want to teach first | Those who want it all at once |
| Yoga Alliance | RYT 200 first, then the RYT 500 route | RYT 500 route |

A 500 hour course is worth it if you want to teach seriously or study deeply and can spend two months away. It is less useful if you only want a short break or are unsure about teaching.
You plan to teach often, you want the full training in one stay and you can leave work for two months. The depth and the long practice are what you are paying for.
You want to teach before you study more, or you cannot be away for two months. A 200 hour course now and a 300 hour course later spreads the cost and the time.
No course makes you a good teacher by itself, because teaching well takes years of classes. The 500 hours give you a strong base, honest feedback and good habits.
Avatar Yoga School is a residential school in Swargashram, Rishikesh, where the day is built around practice, study and rest. Here is what you can expect when you train with us.

Over eight weeks your teachers see how you change. They notice what you avoid, what you rush and where you are ready for more, and they give feedback that fits.

Swargashram lies beside the Ganga, away from the louder parts of town. Two months is long enough to stop rushing and to hear your own practice more clearly.
You get the dates, the fee and the inclusions in writing before you pay, and nobody pushes you to decide. We will tell you if another course fits you better.
A typical day begins around 6 am with pranayama and ends with meditation in the evening. Classes run six days a week and Sunday is free. The schedule is full, and timings shift a little with the batch and the season.
Ask for the current timetable

The eight weeks move in four stages. You build the foundation, deepen your practice, study the advanced material and finish with teaching and assessment.
You learn the basic poses, the breathing and meditation routine and the rhythm of long days. Teachers watch your practice and set the pace to suit your body.
Classes get longer and more demanding. You study alignment and anatomy in detail, and the philosophy lectures begin to connect with what you do on the mat.
You work on advanced asana and pranayama, study the texts more closely and begin to design classes around a theme. Teaching practice becomes a daily habit.
You teach longer classes, practise adjustments and complete your written assessment. The course closes with a final review and a graduation day.
You are assessed on attendance, on your teaching and on written tests. Teachers explain the rules in the first week, so nothing comes as a surprise.
Full attendance matters, because the hours count towards your certificate. If you miss a class, speak to your teacher about how to make it up.
You plan and teach many classes, short at first and longer later, and receive written feedback on your structure, cueing and adjustments.
Short written tests during the course and a final assessment cover philosophy, anatomy and teaching methodology. Teachers help you prepare.
Avatar Yoga School teaches its 500 hour course as a Yoga Alliance program, and graduates can apply to register as RYT 500 teachers. Check the school's registration in the Yoga Alliance online directory before you pay, and ask the team to confirm it in writing.
Yoga Alliance accepts two routes to RYT 500. One is a single 500 hour training at a school registered for 500 hours. The other is a 200 hour training at a school registered for 200 hours plus 300 hours of advanced training at a school registered for 300 hours. A 500 hour course covers the first route in one program.
You also need at least 100 hours of teaching after finishing your training. Your school gives you a completion certificate, which you submit to Yoga Alliance with your application. Registration is optional and is not a legal requirement to teach yoga, but many studios and teacher training schools ask for it.

After 500 hours you can teach classes of any level, lead workshops and retreats, and mentor newer teachers. Many graduates also work towards experienced teacher status with Yoga Alliance once they have taught for several years.
With a full foundation and advanced training, you can teach beginners, intermediate and advanced students, and adapt a class on the spot.
Many graduates plan a workshop on one subject, such as pranayama or anatomy, or lead a retreat. The teaching labs prepare you for it.
Newer teachers often ask for advice. With 500 hours behind you, you can share what you know in studios and in small teacher groups.
Yoga Alliance offers experienced teacher status after several years of teaching, and studios look for senior teachers to lead classes and mentor staff.
Check four things before you book: the school's registration for 500 hours, how the syllabus is spread over the weeks, who teaches and how many students join, and what the fee and the schedule include.
Ask whether the school is registered with Yoga Alliance for 500 hours, and check the directory yourself. Registration decides whether you can apply for RYT 500.
Look for a written syllabus that grows week by week, with advanced practice, deeper texts, applied anatomy and a lot of teaching practice, not a 200 hour course repeated twice.
Ask who teaches each subject and how many students share the classes. Two months with a small group and attentive teachers is worth far more than a crowded batch.
Compare what each fee includes for two months, such as meals, room and materials, and ask how many hours of classes you will have each day. A very cheap fee can hide extra costs.
The fee depends on the room you choose. It covers tuition, accommodation, vegetarian meals and course materials, per person for the full course.
These sessions are included in the course fee at no extra cost.
Ask the team for the current fee for your batch. The payment page explains the booking advance and refund terms.
The course fee usually covers tuition, accommodation, daily vegetarian meals, course manuals and your certificate. Flights, visa, travel insurance and personal expenses are normally extra.
When you compare prices, look at the full picture. A lower fee that leaves out meals or study material can cost more in the end. Ask for the inclusions in writing.
